My brother-in-law got married where he lives in Haines, Alaska, so we got to visit them this summer for the wedding!
Getting there was NOT easy because Haines is only accessible by boat via Juneau. We flew to Seattle, then Juneau, stayed overnight in Juneau, went to the port early the following morning to catch a 6 hour ferry ride. The ferry ride is stunning though as you pass through a channel and view whales and ice-peaked mountains on all sides.

The town of Haines was a nice starting point as it was quite vibrant. They have a brewery and a distillery to visit, as well as some restaurants serving fish fries, and art galleries. Quite a few structures from the Gold Rush in the 1890's still exist.

Even the most laid-back hikes had the most epic views. We got to go out to Viking Cove for the wedding and stayed in cabins there for a weekend and I spent a lot of time sitting on the beach staring out at the landscape. Apparently we got lucky with the weather as well as normally in the summer you don't have as many sunny days.
