A Weekend in Savannah

Since living in Atlanta, I've been lucky enough to visit Savannah a few times for work and for fun.

Savannah is a treasure trove for history buffs. Juliette Gordon Low founded the Girl Scouts in Savannah! Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil is based on a true story in the historic district. And the Owens-Thomas House & Slave Quarters is the rare historic home tour that focuses on the experiences of the enslaved people who maintained the property.

Mighty 8th Air Force Museum right outside of town

Massie Heritage Center is a historical schoolhouse

Old Fort Jackson is a National Historic Landmark

You can also get out on the water and visit Tybee Island or take a dolphin tour. I visited the historic lighthouse with my husband, and also got to take students on a boat trip in the area. Savannah is right on the coast!

Savannah also has a lot of cool cultural activities. SCAD has a museum, but there are ghost tours, converted buildings, a riverwalk, incredible Southern food, soaring cathedrals, and dive bars.

Lots of high quality exhibits from students here

My favorite spot in the the city

Not only does E. Shaver have cats roaming the bookstore, but they carry my friend Adi Alsaid's books!
